Nature has written a worthy essay
on the barren face of the soil.
Put hope in the hearts
and smiles on the lips
of those who sweat and toil.
Verdant exclamation marks,
paragraphs of green –
the sky a beauteous back-cloth
on which the words can lean.
Clustered, scented flowers,
the wonder of a rose –
all these and more combine to make
the very essence of its prose.

Beautifully written Joy!
Came over to say I really appreciated your Dialogue entry in the Rodeo, I am impressed and now your poetry … you have talent, well done!
I don’t receive many compliments, so thank you very much! What do YOU write? Best wishes.
mine is very amateurish compared to yours, mostly free style poems and just started some fiction 🙂
Good luck with your writing, It’s a wonderful way to pass the time…x
Lovely poem!
Thanks Stevie. I’m smiling…
I just read your post on ‘reaching’ an audience and I couldn’t agree with it more. Problem for me was I was actually commissioned (little old moi?) to write two factual books (Kogan Page, London) who are still going strong…because my old boss (in publishing) knew the editor!! A fluke or what? (It doesn’t happen very often.).The first one went to a second reprint (in 1984/5) and I was thoroughly spoiled pay-wise, plus royalties. Fast forward to the 2,000s – “life”: business & three sons happily intervened – and technology came along and tripped me up. BIG TIME. I PUSH when it says PULL…My eldest son often helps me out (but he now lives in Denmark!) and the others are so busy….It hasn’t stopped me as I love writing and words themselves, but would starve on the pay if I didn’t have a husband and hadn’t saved. I “chair” for the writing group “Writers’ Ink” here in Spain where I’m retired. Sorry to have bent your ear for so long, Stevie..Upwards and onwards…
Love it!
Beautiful, Joy…
Glad you enjoyed it, Bette. x
Mother Nature is a wonderful being 💜
Such a wonderful poem, Joy. Nature is indeed a lovely inspiration for our poetry and prose. Mrs. Nature never ceases to amaze me with her beauty and wisdom. Thanks for the smile. 🙂
Thank you, Diane. As you must have guessed by now… you have a staunch fan in me!! I would love to see the elephant and mice tale in a children’s book with appropriate illustrations. Gorgeous! xx
