Nature in her wisdom
makes way for another season;
Summer acquiesces –
makes us muse upon the reason.
Now Autumn’s inspired paint-brush
has burnished Summer’s trees:
has stippled, veined and spotted
and prettied up her leaves.
Amber, ochre, scarlet leaves,
drift down as light as whispers,
to kiss this Mother Earth of ours
like hushed and soft-sung vespers.
The light is muted, delicate –
sky quilted grey and blue,
as Zephyr’s cheeks, extended, blow
awry the multi-coloured carpet,
oh so new.

Hi Joy, a beautiful autumn poem. Really lovely 💝
Muchas gracias, Robbie. Hugs xx
🤗
Very nice, Joy! Of course, we don’t really get autumn here in Spain. Just cooler summery days!
Thanks, Darlene. No! The Canadian/American/British trees take some beating…Hugs xx
I love your poem! You’ve exactly captured the view outside my windows and how I feel about it.
Aah, thank you Liz. Of course, the Spanish trees don’t quite rise to the American, Canadian or British Autumn displays, but some of their other plants and flowers more than make amends. Cheers. xx
You’re welcome, Joy. Every landscape has its own unique beauty, I’ve found.

Hi Joy, I snapped a photo of the leaves in the backyard this morning, so it looks like we’re on the same wavelength 🙂 I particularly like these lines in your poem:
“Amber, ochre, scarlet leaves,
drift down as light as whispers”
So well said! Happy autumn

I was stunned at the sight of pink and lavender leaves here in GA last fall. I realized they were the other side of red. Just amazing. Lovely blog. =)
Hello, Joy. I find myself wandering about your blog this morning, enjoying it very much. Thank you for your like on my Thursday SSS post at GirlieOnTheEdge as it has led me here, to your house.
Your poem is beautifully crafted taking me, however briefly, on a little side trip filled with the sights and smells of perhaps my most favorite season.
