Drum roll please for Drummond Marvin…a stalwart and modest member of WordPlay. He has a CV that would make a marvellous book! I can only provide a mere thumb-print of all the things that he has accomplished
To start at the beginning…Drummond went to two Grammar schools, plus a private school, and was an excellent student, passing numerous examinations with flair. As well as becoming a Policeman, he did his National Service, and worked as a commercial lorry driver and a labourer for a short time. He also attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and later appeared on stage: as a Stage Director, and also as an actor – performing as Leading Man for two years for a Repertory company in Tynemouth. His experience on stage, led to small parts in Hancock’s Half Hour, a Michael Dennison and Dulcie Gray Series, and he also appeared with Bebe Daniels and Ben Lyon; as well as completing a summer Season in the Isle of Wight.
However, ‘The call to duty’ beckoned and he became entrenched in police work, rising to Police Detective, working with the Fraud squad and an Intelligence wing for a time. Thereafter, Drummond became Detective Chief Inspector and worked in Scotland Yard, the Virgin Islands, Liechtenstein, the Bahamas; as well as France, Spain and Italy, et al. He was Liaison Officer for the American and Canadian Embassies and played many other roles in the Police Force, eventually becoming Chief Superintendent with the Serious Crimes Branch NSY. He won a Queen’s commendation, etc., The etc will cover his blushes…He was wounded twice on duty, once quite seriously.
Now that Drummond is retired – he used to play golf but his old wound put a stop to that – he lives in Spain with his wife Betty, and tellingly says that he learned all that he needed to know about life from the daughter he had.
PS Oh, by the way…HE WRITES! Very well I might add: excellent short stories and plays. Four recent Plays are at present in the hands of a Literary Agent. So, watch this space, as they say…
PPS I’ve left out many ‘juicy bits.’ They can go in his Memoir!

Hello – I have dmarvin not drummondmarvin on the email address I have for Drummond – try that, it may work.
Hi There,
After reading this rather impressive article, it wasn’t long before I knew this is in fact my uncle Drummond!! If you still see him it would be wonderful if you could send my love and best wishes … thank you 😊 Natalie x
Hi Natalie, Thanks for your message. I’ve tried ringing Drummond but he’s very hard of hearing now and rarely answers the phone, so I’ll email him and let him know you’ve been in touch. He’s a dear man and quite a character…and is still scheming (literally speaking) and writing stories. Will be in touch. Cheers. Joy
Lovely Joy,
I really appreciate your response! That does not surprise me at all that Drummond is still writing … as he has many wonderful memories and stories to tell, both Drummond and Betty are wonderful characters and it’s great of you to pass a message that I’m thinking of them, thank you x
Hi Natalie,
I sent Drummond an email because i still couldn’t get through on the telephone. He explained that he has changed his phone number but not got around to telling everyone…He was happy that you contacted me and his email address is dmarvin@hotmail.co,uk
A few years ago, he asked me to edit his plays. And believe me, they hardly needed editing…I feel sad that none were published or staged as they were very good, He had one agent who was as good as snow on a hot day…Anyway, good luck! Best wishes. Joy x
Hey Joy,
Thank you kindly! I have sent an email in hope of a response … I cannot thank you enough for your time, Drummond’s previous agent clearly missed out there! Take care Joy and thanks again x
Hi Natalie, No problema. You’re very welcome. I’m sure you will both have lots to say. Enjoy! Best wishes.Joy x
